Dobby – Foxtail removal from the nose

Dobby arrived at the clinic with a one-week history of sneezing that had not responded to the medication prescribed by the referring veterinarian. Over the last two days, the sneezing had progressed to a bloody discharge from the left nostril. The puppy was referred to us by colleagues for an endoscopic examination of the nasal cavity due to a suspected foreign body in the nose (foxtail).

Under general anesthesia, we performed rhinoscopy and  identified the cause of the persistent sneezing: a foxtail in the left nostril. The foreign body was removed under endoscopic guidance.

In addition to the foxtail, the high-resolution camera revealed severely inflamed mucous membranes in both nostrils, as well as white plaques characteristic of Aspergillosis. A blood sample was collected and sent for aspergillosis antibody titer testing; the results returned positive with a titer of 1:80.

Dobby’s primary veterinarian continued the treatment for aspergillosis.
