At VET-F Clinic, every procedure requiring anesthesia begins with an individualized preoperative assessment of the patient.
Before a decision is made regarding anesthesia, the patient undergoes an examination by an anesthesiologist, who assesses:
- overall health;
- the presence of any underlying medical conditions;
- necessary preoperative tests;
- whether this is the appropriate time to administer anesthesia.
This approach allows us to select the most appropriate and safest anesthetic plan based on the patient’s age, breed, general condition, and the specific procedure.
Before surgery or any other procedure under anesthesia, every patient undergoes a thorough preoperative evaluation. The standard process includes:
Anesthesia & Analgesia
Anesthesia – or “putting them to sleep,” as pet owners often call it – is one of the topics that most frequently causes anxiety in pet owners..
At VET-F Clinic, we understand this and pay special attention to every stage of the process to minimize the risk of complications. The correct medical term is anesthesia. It can be:
- General anesthesia – the patient is in a controlled unconscious state during the procedure.
- Sedation – a milder form of drug-induced sedation used for certain examinations and brief procedures.
Equally important is analgesia (pain relief).
Pain relief is an integral part of modern veterinary medicine and is important both during the procedure and in the postoperative period, when the patient’s comfort is key to recovery.
We have a modern anesthesia facility and equipment that allows for the safe performance of both short and prolonged surgical procedures.
The equipment includes:
- Gas anesthesia machine (inhalation anesthesia) with continuous oxygen flow
- Mechanical ventilation for precise control of breathing
- ECG monitor
- Blood pressure monitor
- Pulse oximeter
- Capnometer
- Specialized warming pad
- Specialized thermometer
During the Procedure
During anesthesia, the patient is continuously monitored by an anesthesiologist.
The following are monitored in real time:
- heart rate;
- respiration;
- oxygen saturation;
- blood pressure;
- body temperature;
- carbon dioxide in exhaled air.
This allows for a rapid response to any changes and significantly reduces the risk of complications during surgery and in the immediate postoperative period.
